The Night Before Christmas - Clement Clarke Moore

This is a poem that was first published in 1823 anonymously. Although most credit Clement Clarke Moore as its author, some believe it was written by Henry Livingston Jr. It is a story that takes place on Christmas Eve, a man wakes up on hearing noises outside his house whilst his family are asleep. When he looks out of his window he sees St. Nicholas, his sleigh and eight reindeer landing on his roof. He continues to watch as St. Nicholas enters the house through the chimney and fills the children's stockings which are hanging by the fire. There is a moment when they see each other, but St. Nicholas bounds up the chimney and as he flies away, he wishes everyone a 'Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night'.
