Den Gamle By Christmas Market Aarhus
16 November - 30 December 2013
Den Gamle By Christmas Market is set in the Den Gamle By open air museum in Aarhus. Den Gamle By literally means “The Old Town”. Christmas is the museum’s main season with numerous activities. The Christmas market has stalls were the sellers are dressed in historical costumes. You can buy treats and delicacies as well as historical and homemade presents.
The museum’s exhibitions are typical Danish Christmas celebrations from the 1600s to 1974. You can take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, visit the maid in the merchant’s house or the vicar’s widow, telling how it was like to live at the time of the fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. It is also possible to take a dramatised guided tour.
The museum’s restaurants sell traditional Danish foods like klejner or ćbleskiver – traditional Danish Christmas cakes.
